Now in its fifteenth year, the New Voices Award was one of the first (and remains one of the only) writing contests specifically designed to help authors of color break into publishing, an industry in which they are still dramatically underrepresented.
The contest is open to writers of color who are residents of the United States and who have not previously had a children’s picture book published. The Award winner receives a cash prize of $1000 and Lee & Low Books’ standard publication contract, including the basic advance and royalties for a first time author. An Honor Award winner will receive a cash prize of $500.
Manuscripts must be postmarked by September 30, 2014 to be eligible for this year’s award.
