Palo! Afro-Cuban funk band will play live, three exhibits will open, this year’s Book Fair posters will be shown for the first time, films will be screened and the third #6WordsMiami story writing (and telling) event will take place at the Freedom Tower on Friday, Sept. 19, when all departments of MDCulture come together during DWNTWN Art Days.
6 p.m. and 7 p.m. – Official openings of MDC Museum of Art + Design’s exhibits, The Exile Experience: Journey to Freedom; Cuba Out of Cuba: Through the Lens of Alexis Rodriguez-Duarte in Collaboration With Tico Torres; LEBO Pops Up: Artworks (in partnership with the Book Fair); The Universe Within 6pne: Asser Saint-Val; and Work/Work: New Work by MDC/NWSA Faculty.
6:30 p.m. – Book Fair posters unveiled! 2014 artists: David “LEBO” LeBatard and Graeme Base.
6:45 p.m. – Palo! presented by MDCLive
7:30 p.m. – #6WordsMiami: Have a drink, write a story. Have another drink, write a better story! Our partner for this project, WLRN, will send a reporter to record #6WordsMiami stories live. Editorial Director Alicia Zuckerman will get great back stories from the readers, as she did at the Books & Books happy hour in August.
7:45 p.m. – Short films presented by Miami International Film Festival.
